The members, along with those in Cyptocephala (see above), were traditionally considered to be members of the genus Thyanta . Rolston & McDonald (1984) determined that they were generically distinct from that genus and described Tepa to hold this group of small, relatively robust species. In fact, this genus was revised under the term “small Thyanta species ” by Rolston (1972); this review was subsequently updated by Rider (1986b). This genus currently contains six species, all of which are known to occur in the United States.
