Bergroth (1891) believed the generic name Oebalus to be preoccupied, so he proposed the anagramic Solubea as a replacement name. Sailer (1957) pointed out that Oebalus was not preoccupied afterall, and as such, Solubea must be treated as a synonym of this genus. Regardless, many of the early records of these species are in the genus Solubea . There are currently nine species in this genus, four of which are recorded from the U.S. The genus was revised, including a key to the species, under Solubea by Sailer (1944); an important specific synonymy was proposed by Vecchio et al. (1994). Several of the included species are considered to be pests of rice.
