Comments. This species occupies very distinct habitats, consisting of slow flowing or stagnant water, fresh or brackish, up to 380 m asl. It was first recorded from Tunisia by Omer-Cooper (1930) under the name of Anisops canariensis Noualhier in southern localities (Teboulbou, Gabès).

Distribution. It occurs in South Europe ( Portugal, Spain and Sicily), Middle East ( Iran, Iraq, Israel, and Saudi Arabia), North Africa, Cape Verde, Djibouti, Senegal (Polhemus 1995; Carapezza 1997; Larsen & Blaustein 2005).
