Posterior extension of tergite 9 slightly depressed, with two pairs of short obtuse projections bearing tiny black spines, medial pair slightly longer than lateral pair. Clasper of gonostylus with hairy protuberance at basal beak and wide slant projection at posterior basal lobe.

Description. Male (n=11): body length 12–14.5mm, wing length 10–14.5mm, antenna length 3.7–5.5 mm.

Head ( Fig. 15, 16 View FIGURES 15–17 ). Mostly yellow. Vertex with dark brown hairy spot near inner margin of eyes. Occipital marking dark brown, onion-shaped, laterally convex usually prolonged up to top of vertex. Face with small triangular brownish spot at middle, sometimes round. Dorsal part of rostrum including nasus brownish black. Hairs on head black. Antenna dark brown except scape and pedicel brown. First flagellar segment 1.2 × length of second. Proboscis mostly dark brown. Palpi brownish grey.

Thorax ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 15–17 ). Mostly yellow. Pronotum dark brown, medially brownish with two round yellow spots. Prescutum with three black longitudinal stripes; anterior end of lateral prescutal stripe bent outward, brown. Scutum with two black spots, antero-lateral margin of scutum brown. Scutellum dark yellow, brown at middle. Mediotergite with an up-side-down T-shaped dark brown spot. Anepisternum and katepisternum each with large black spot, posterior margin of both anepisternum and katepisternum black at middle. Anepimeron with small triangular black spot at antero-upper corner. Meron with black lower portion. Parascutellum tinged brown, anatergite dark brown, katatergite with black lower margin. Legs yellow except coxae red-brown, tips of tibiae brown and tarsi dark brown. Hairs on legs brownish, except those on coxae dark yellow. Wing light brown; pterostigma distinct dark brown with seventeen macrotrichiae; basal portion of vein R4+5 and cross vein r-m with brown shade; cell m1 sessile ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 15–17 ). Halter with stem brown, knob yellowish brown.

Abdomen ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 15–17 ). Mainly yellow. Abdominal dorsum with three dark brown longitudinal stripes, venter with one dark brown mid-longitudinal stripe. Abdominal segments 6–8 entirely dark brown to black; hypopygium mostly dark brown, partly brownish yellow. Hairs on abdomen blackish or dark yellow.

Hypopygium ( Figs. 18–22 View FIGURES 18–22 ). Tergite 9 semicircular, shallowly depressed at middle; posterior extension slightly depressed with two pairs of short obtuse projections bearing tiny black spines, medial pair slightly longer than lateral pair ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 18–22 ). Posterior margin of sternite 8 slightly convex ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 18–22 ). Sternite 9 with dense hairs at posterior margin and a U-shaped sclerotized projection at middle in ventral view ( Figs. 18, 19 View FIGURES 18–22 ). Lobe of gonostylus fleshy, protruded at middle, narrowed toward tip ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 18–22 ). Clasper of gonostylus with big concavity at base; beak obtuse; posterior basal lobe with hairy protuberance; basal beak with sclerotized hairy slant protuberance ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 18–22 ).

Semen pump ( Figs. 23–25 View FIGURES 23–30 ). Dark brown. Posterior immovable apodeme (pia) rod-like and directed backward ( Figs. 23–25 View FIGURES 23–30 ); compressor apodeme (ca) with fan-shaped and hollowed concavity ( Fig 23, 25 View FIGURES 23–30 ); ventral compressor apodeme(ca) flattened, with small round posterior projection ( Fig 24 View FIGURES 23–30 ); anterior immovable apodeme (aia) guitarshaped, broader than compressor apodeme, with rod-like posterior concavity ( Fig. 23–25 View FIGURES 23–30 ).

Female (n=18): body length 14–18mm, wing length 13–15mm, antenna length 3.5–6 mm.

Female resembling male in head, thorax and abdomen. Tergite 8 reddish brown throughout. Tergite 9, sternite 8 and basal region of tergite 10 dark red-brown ( Figs. 26–28 View FIGURES 23–30 ). Sternite 10 with a black stripe.

Ovipositor reddish brown ( Figs. 26–28 View FIGURES 23–30 ). Cerci narrowed toward tip ( Fig. 26, 27 View FIGURES 23–30 ). Hypovalva curved downward apically ( Fig. 26, 28 View FIGURES 23–30 ). Hypovalva with six strong reddish brown upheavals in dorsal view ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 23–30 ). Furca long triangular, dark brown; fused valvulae narrow, tongue-shaped ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 15–17 ).

Distribution. China (Xinjiang).

Etymology. The species is named after the type locality Kanas.

Remarks. This new species is similar to N. neopratensis Alexander, 1921   in the shape of the clasper and lobe of the gonostylus. It can be separated from the latter by following features: posterior extension of tergite 9 with four projections, clasper of gonostylus with hairy protuberance at basal beak. In N. neopratensis   , the posterior extension of tergite 9 has two projections and also horn-like process at lateral margin, and the clasper of the gonostylus has a wide process at basal beak ( Alexander 1935; Oosterbroek 1985).
