Diagnosis

Colony shape varies depending on the development of secondary branchlets, either hispidose or corymbose form. Radial corallites appressed tubular, evenly sized, with absence in parts of the colony. Coenosteum throughout bearing elaborate spinules, densely arranged ( Wallace, 1999).

All extant species occur subtidally, with some of them occurring in deep or shaded reef slope locations ( Wallace, 1999).
