sp. nov.

Anormalous zhangi Liu , sp. nov. (Plate 4a–d, 5a–c)

Holotype: male, China: Yunnan Province: Zhongdian, Gezan, 3100m, 1981. VIII.9, Coll. Zhang Xuezhong ( IZAS).

Description: Holotype (male). Legs. Fore tibiae ventrally with 1 posterior apical spur and 1 posterior apical spur and 7 evenly arranged anterior spines; mid tibiae ventrally with 1 posterior apical spur and 8 spines, and 1 anterior apical spur and 6 spines; hind femur dorsally with 1 apical spur and 9 spines on both margins, ventrally with 1 apical spur on both margins, 9 anterior and 7 posterior spines.

Wings. Tegmen short, not exceeding abdomen (Plate 4a–b); hind wing not developed well, shorter than tegmen (Plate 4a–b). Tegmen with longitudinal veins developed well, and Rs and cross veins irregular; tegminal apex rounded (Plate 4a–c). Male stridulatory area broader than long (Plate 4c).

Abdomen. Male tenth abdominal normal, central part of dorsal surface slightly concave, apical margin wide truncated (Plate 4d,5a). Male epiproct tongue-shaped. Male cerci slender, cylindrical (Plate 5b). Male subgenital plate elongate, split from basal third into two triangular lobes; notch narrow triangular; lateral margin of lateral lobe tapering towards apices; apical lobes without distinct styli (Plate 4d, 5c).

Female unknown.

Color: Green.

Measurements of male (mm): length of body 11.5; length of pronotum 3.0; basal width ofpronotal disc 2.0; apical width of pronotal disc 2.5; length of tegmen 6.7; largest width of male stridulotory area 2.4; length of male stridulatory vein 2.3; length of male stridulatory apparatus 4.0; largest width of tegmen 9.0; hind wing 3.0; length of fore femur 6.5; length of fore tibiae 7.5; length of mid femur 7.5; length of mid tibiae 8.5; length of hind femur 14.5; length of hind tibiae 15.5; length of epiproct 1.0; length of cerci 2.5; length of subgenital plate 3.3.

Discussion: This new species is very small, and the adults only can be distinguished from its mature exterior genitalia. It is distinguished from other insects in the Phaneropterinae not only by the small size, but also its distinguishable tegminal structure.

Etymology: The name represents thanks to Mr. Zhang Xuezhong for his collecting numerous valuable specimens in China.

Distribution: China (Yunnan Prov.).
