Diagnosis. Chimoptesis miniaula is closely related to C. rubigo , but the former can be distinguished by the more broadly concave forewing termen, the concave posterior edge of the sterigma, the very small cingulum, and the folds of the subgenital sterite extending lateroproximally.

Description. Wing span 19 mm. Male: Unknown. Female: Head greyish cream, thorax darker, labial palpus brownish laterally. Forewing slightly expanding posteriorly; termen not oblique, sinuate. Ground colour cream, slightly tinged brown, with darker strigulation; terminal area pale ferruginous; ocellus yellower with blackish spots. Basal area brownish olive, paler proximally; median fascia darker with rust median part. Cilia mostly concolorous with ground colour. Hindwing pale brownish cream; cilia creamer. Genitalia ( Fig.17 View FIGURES 13 – 19 ) with postostial sterigma short, rounded laterally, slightly concave posteriorly; antrum sclerite tapering proximally, proximal part of cingulum small; proximal part of ductus bursae membranous, large; signa large, slender.

Holotype female: " Mexico: Chiapas, San Cristobal de las Casas, 2300 m, 23–27.VI.1981, V.O. Becker Col; Col. Becker 43774"; GS 841 WZ.

Etymology. The name refers to the small cingulum; Greek: minys—small, aulos—a pipe.
