Figs 10 View FIGURES 7 – 12 , 48 View FIGURES 43 – 50

Diagnosis. Chimoptesis setoses is most similar to C. pennsylvaniana (Kearfott, 1907) on the basis of its very short, broad uncus and the broad socii; however, it is easily distinguished by facies. The shape of the valva is similar to some species of Epinotia .

Description. Wing span 13 mm. Male: Head and thorax brownish cream, labial palpus cream. Forewing not expanding terminally; costa weakly bent; apex pointed; termen concave beneath apex. Ground colour cream brown, suffused brownish grey; dorsal patch and ocellar area creamer; costal strigulae slender, cream; divisions brownish. Markings reduced to brown remnants of median fascia, dorsal part of postbasal fascia present. Cilia damaged. Hindwing pale brownish. Genitalia ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ) with uncus very short, broad, with conspicuous long setae; socius short, broad, lateral, densely hairy; valva with sacculus short, angulate, ventral incision shallow; cucullus long, evenly curved basally, nearly straight in middle portion, with small, rounded ventral lobe; aedeagus approximately as long as sacculus. Female: Unknown.

Holotype male: " Cuba: S[an]t[ia]go, Gran Piedra, 20.VII.1990, V.O. Becker Col; Col. Becker 72999"; GS 1255 WZ. Three male paratypes with similar label data, one with GS 1275.

Etymology. The specific name refers to the presence of conspicuous setae from the top of the tegumen; Latin: seta—a seta, Greek: ses—a moth.
