( Figs. 36, 39, 41, 46, 47 View FIGURES 36 – 47 )

Odontophotopsis (Odontophotopsis) tenuiptera Schuster, 1958 . Ent. Amer. (n. s.) 37: 47. male. Holotype: Mexico (ZMNB).

Diagnosis. This species is distinguished from others in this species-group by the unique metasternal processes, which are hooked posteriorly at the apex ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ).

Male. Coloration and setal pattern. Head, mesosoma and first metasomal segment testaceous, antenna and legs paler, dark stramineous. Metasomal segments 2–7 darker, dark ferruginous, apical and lateral margins of tergites and basal margins of sternites somewhat lighter in coloration. Some specimens with S2 medially testaceous.

Head. Ocelli large, ocellocular distance ~1.1X width of lateral ocellus, and interocellular distance ~0.9X width of lateral ocellus. Mandible with three apical teeth and with large basal tooth ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ); width at ventral tooth 1.25X basal width of mandible, width at preceding sinus 0.75X basal width of mandible, apical width 0.8X basal width of mandible ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ). Length of first three flagellomeres: 3X, 3.1X, and 3X length of pedicel respectively; width of first flagellomere ~1.4X length of pedicel.

Mesosoma. Mesosternal processes height greater than 2X width apart, apex hooked posteriorly, posterior margin dentate ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ). Marginal cell 2X length of stigma ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ). Stigma 1.2X length of R1 vein.

Metasoma. Genitalia as in Figs. 46 and 47 View FIGURES 36 – 47 . Digitus cylindrical.

Length. 16–19 mm.

Distribution. The Sonoran Desert and Sonoran/Chihuahuan Desert boundary in Arizona and northern Mexico.
