Family Nematocarcinidae A. Milne-Edwards, 1881

There is considerable evidence that all records of Nematocarcinus south of the Antarctic Polar Front are based on N. lanceopes , despite other species being recorded. On the other hand, the taxonomy of species occurring in sub- Antarctic waters remains confused and clarification is not expected in the near future. Below, we simply summarize existing literature.
