Porphyrochroa amazonica View in CoL sp. nov.

(Figs. 2a–i; 18b; 20)

Diagnosis: P. amazonica sp. nov. differs from all other studied species due to the presence of ten anteroventral spines on the hind femur. Is closely related to P. longiseta sp. nov. due to the presence of ventral spines in the hind femur. It differs due to the absence of many setae on the abdominal sclerites.

Description. Male: body length 3.3 mm; wing length 2.9 mm.

Frons and face shiny black. Frons slightly narrower than width of anterior ocellus, subparallel sided, bearing three proclinate setae. Face slightly longer than frons and about half width of frons. Proboscis light-yellow, length equal to height of head. Palpus brown, with one small and almost apical seta. Ocellar tubercule with vitreous light-brown ocellus; two proclinate ocellar setae; postocellar setae broken. Antenna with scape, pedicel and basal fifth of flagellum yellow, remaining segments brown; scape and pedicel medially verticillate; flagellum about four times longer than scape and pedicel combined. Postcranium shiny black, with distinct brown setae and gray pruinescence; one pair of parallel vertical setae; postocellar setae distinct, arranged in complete single series with dorsal setae stronger. Gena and postgena with setae brown to black and sparse gray pruinescence. Thorax shiny brown, with conspicuous postsutural gray pruinescence. Thoracic setae: 3 slender ktg; 4 sctl; 3 aprn; prepm broken; 2 pprn; acr broken; 4 dc; 1 spal presut; spal psut broken; 2 ntpl; 1 pal. Fore, mid and hind leg with the distal region of the femura and all tibia, brown; remaining segments yellow. Hind femur with about ten ventral distal spines. All legs with short distinct setae. Wing hyaline with conspicuous pterostigma; anal lobe narrow; R2+3 rather curved ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 b). Halter yellow. Abdomen shiny darkbrown, with metallic green luster in diverse light incidence angles. Sternites brown. Tergite 7 with pair of distinct posteroventral protuberances (Fig. 2a); tergite 8 truncate posteriorly. With lateral forward projection (Fig. 2a); sternite 7 sub-square and inclined in lateral view (Figs. 2b; f); sternite 8 wider than long (Fig. 2b). Terminalia: epandrium elongate with posterior digitiform projection and dorsal region clothed in setae (Fig. 2c). Hypandrium with about ten long posteroventral setae, with narrow apex and phallus longer than hypandrium (Figs. 2d; e). Cercus elongate in lateral view (Fig. 2d); in dorsal view, with internal ventral downward projection (Fig. 2i). Ejaculatory apodeme extended anteriorly to tergite 7 (Fig. 2f); with three projections in anterior view (Fig. 2g); subepandrial sclerite with base shorter than arms and fold at arm’s apex (Fig. 2h).

Female: Unknown.

Distribution: BRAZIL (Amazonas).

Type material: Holotype male: BRAZIL, Amazonas, Parque Nacional Jaú, 8–16.iv.2001, 01°54’46”S, 61°35’23”W / Arm.[adilha] Malaise, Campina arbustiva, Henriques & Vidal / Holotype macho Porphyrochroa amazonica ( INPA).

Holotype condition: postocellar setae, prepm, acr and spal psut broken; left wing mounted on microslide in Canada balsam; abdomen within microvial containing glycerin. Microslide and microvial pinned attached to the specimen.

Etymology: The specific name is in reference to the name Amazonia.
