Porphyrochroa epandrialis View in CoL sp. nov.

(Figs. 7a–i; 18g; 20)

Diagnosis: P. epandrialis sp. nov. differs from all other studied species due to the singular format of the epandrium.

Description. Male: body length 1.7 mm; wing length 2.1 mm.

Frons and face shiny brown. Frons slightly wider than width of anterior ocellus, sides subparallel, with two setae. Face slightly longer and about half width of frons. Proboscis light-yellow, length equal to height of head. Palpus brown, with one small and almost apical seta. Ocellar tubercule with vitreous light-yellow ocellus; two ocellar setae parallel; two proclinate postocellar setae. Antenna entirely brown with lighter scape; scape and pedicel medially verticillate; flagellum about four times longer than scape and pedicel combined. Postcranium shiny brown, with distinct brown setae and gray pruinescence; one pair of parallel vertical setae; postocellar setae distinct, arranged in complete single series with dorsal setae stronger. Gena and postgena with brown setae and sparse gray pruinescence. Thorax shiny brown, with conspicuous postsutural gray pruinescence. Thoracic setae: 4 slender ktg; 4 sctl, larger internal pair; aprn and prepm broken; 1 pprn; 2 acr; 4 dc; 1 spal presut; spal psut broken; 2 ntpl; 1 pal. Legs with coxae, trochanters and basal fifth of femora yellow, remaining segments brown. Hind tibia and hind basal tarsomere with long dorsal setae. All legs with short distinct setae. Wing hyaline with inconspicuous pterostigma; anal lobe wide ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 g). Halter brown. Abdomen shiny brown, with metallic blue luster in diverse light incidence angles. Sternites shiny brown. Tergite 7 with pair of posteroventral protuberances (Fig. 7a); tergite 8 truncated anteriorly and smaller than former ones (Fig. 7a); sternite 7 sub-square and inclined in lateral view (Figs. 7b; c); sternite 8 wide, with long setae (Fig. 7b). Terminalia: hypandrium without setae (Figs. 7d; h). Cercus elongate in lateral view, with ventral projection (Figs. 7d; g). Epandrium projected anteriorly and superiorly, with setae on dorsal region (Fig. 7e); ejaculatory apodeme with three projections in anterior view (Fig. 7f); subepandrial sclerite with base shorter than arms (Fig. 7i).

Female: Unknown.

Distribution: BRAZIL (Roraima).

Type material: Holotype male: BRAZIL: Roraima, Pacaraima , 25.vi–5.vii. 1988, Eq.[uipe] J.A. Rafael / Flor de Heliconia sp. / Holotype macho Porphyrochroa epandrialis ( INPA). Paratypes: idem (1 male, INPA). Holotype condition: aprn setae, prepm and spal psut broken; left wing mounted on microslide in Canada balsam; abdomen within microvial containing glycerin. Microslide and microvial pinned attached to specimen.

Etymology: The specific name in reference to the epandrium, with singular form.
