Dashymenia colubrina Wolski & Gorczyca View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figures 6 View FIGURES 1 – 18 , 56 View FIGURE 56 , 60–63 View FIGURES 57 – 63 )

Diagnosis. Most similar to D. cognata in sharing similar coloration of the dorsal surface and the head, and similar shape of the male genitalic structures (see diagnosis of Dashymenia cognata ). The new species can, however, be distinguished from D. cognata by the PES with the large and hook-shaped sclerite without the swelling posteriorly, and the smaller sclerite of the PES with the obtuse apex ( Figs. 60–61 View FIGURES 57 – 63 , arrow).

Description. Male. COLORATION ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 18 ). Dorsum dark brown with yellow areas. Head. Vertex and frons yellow; vertex with brownish patch along occipital carina; frons tinged with red apically; remainder of head reddish yellow; antenna blackish yellow; segment I yellow with two distinct, red annulations: one situated at basal one third, other situated apically; segment II weakly tinged with yellow basally, remainder of segment II blackish; segment III yellow; segment IV dull yellowish; labial segment I red; segment II yellow, weakly tinged with red basally, red apically; segments III and IV brown; segment IV with yellow annulation basally. Thorax. Pronotum. Dark brown, with broad yellow stripes laterally and brownish broad tinge situated anterolaterally. Scutellum. Mostly yellow, with large, dark brown patch basally, reaching middle of scutellum. Thoracic pleura. Proepimeron and mesepimeron yellowish red; remaining pleura castaneous; evaporative areas fuscous; peritreme reddish. Hemelytron. Dark brown; membrane pale gray, venation fuscous. Legs. Coxae red with yellow areas; metafemur yellow, with broad, reddish tinge apically; metatibia and metatarsus yellow; remaining parts of legs broken. Abdomen. Brown. STRUCTURE AND VESTITURE ( Figs. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 18 ). Elongate oval; dorsal surface mixed with dense, semirecumbent and erect setae. Head. Vertex with two, moderately convex tubercles, each contiguous with inner margin of eye and occipital carina; vertex also with short, longitudinal rib between tubercles, almost contiguous with occipital carina; frons rugose medially; antennal segment I covered with moderately dense, recumbent setae, weakly narrowed basally, remainder of the segment cylindrical; segment II stout, weakly thickened towards apex, covered with dense, relatively thick, semirecumbent setae; apex of labium reaching just beyond apex of procoxae. Thorax. Scutellum. Weakly arched. Thoracic pleura. Proepimeron covered with deep and dense punctation; remaining pleura inpunctate, strongly polished; peritreme rounded, somewhat convex, smooth and shining. Hemelytron. Membrane with minor cell hardly visible; major cell nearly triangular. Legs. Coxae covered with sparse, fine, semirecumbent setae; metafemur and metatibia covered with moderately dense setae; remaining legs broken.

Male genitalia. Endosoma ( Figs. 60–61 View FIGURES 57 – 63 ). Similar to that present in D. cognata (see description of D. cognata , Figs. 57–58 View FIGURES 57 – 63 ); apical portion of AES moderately broadened and weakly elongated; large sclerite of PES without swelling posteriorly; small sclerite of PES with obtuse apex ( Figs. 60–61 View FIGURES 57 – 63 , arrow). Left paramere ( Fig. 62 View FIGURES 57 – 63 ). Apical process short, weakly obtuse; sensory lobe weakly convex. Right paramere ( Fig. 63 View FIGURES 57 – 63 ). Somewhat elongated; apical process narrowed towards apex.

Measurements. 3: body length 5.3, width 2.2; Head. Length 0.47, width 1.1, diameter of eye in dorsal view 0.3. Antenna. Length of segment I 0.43, II 1.19, III 0.32, IV 0.72. Labium. Length of segment I 0.5, II 0.48, III 0.28, IV 0.33. Pronotum. Length 1.28, width of anterior margin 0.68, length of lateral margin 1.1, width of posterior margin 1.85.

Female. Unknown.

Etymology. The specific name is taken from the Latin “colubrinus,” (snake-shaped) and is used to denote the snake-like shape of the endosomal sclerite MES.

Distribution ( Fig. 56 View FIGURE 56 ). Brunei (Temburong).

Type material. Holotype 3: Brunei Temburong, Kuala Belalong Steep-slope forest above 150 m alt, October 1992, J. H. Martin coll., B. M. 1992-172 Malaise trap ( BMNH).
