Small to medium-sized, up to 40 cm. Leaves reniform, with wide sinus, variably clothed with patent hairs on both surfaces, but often only on veins beneath and folds above; lobes 7(-9), rounded with no incisions and subacute, somewhat connivent teeth. Lower part of stem, and all petioles except those of earliest basal leaves, with patent hairs. Base of petioles and stipules purplish-red. Flowers 3 -5-4 mm wide; hypanthium usually with patent hairs. • N, N. W. & N.C. Europe and on the principal mountains of W. & C. Europe from the Pyrenees to the Sudeten mountains.
