Type locality: not stated.

Material in MHNG, Lamarck collection: 2 syntypes MHNG INVE 51728 (ex MHNG 1098/30) (figured herein, Fig. 10B – C ); 1098/30/1 : 64 mm (is probably the specimen figured in (1816) pl. 429, fig. 7, with the caption Fusus ocelliferus ); 1098/30/2 : 68.2 mm. No locality given on the label.

Remarks: According to Rosalie de Lamarck, her father’s collection contained two specimens.

Current taxonomic position: Fusinus ocelliferus ( Lamarck, 1816) ; Fusus verruculatus is an unnecessary new name for Fusus ocelliferus Lamarck, 1816 . Bory’s 1827 clarification of Lamarck (1816), pl. caption 429, fig. 7 (p. 173) lists both names for this figure. Deshayes (1832: 151) formally established the synonymy. Locality is South Africa.
