( Figs. 10D View FIGURE 10 , 11E View FIGURE 11 , 19 View FIGURE 19 )
Type material. Holotype, male ( NMW): “Type / H. T.” [oval label with red margin, printed]; “Quop, / W. Sarawak. / G. E. Bryant. / 27.II.14” [printed label]; “ ♂ ” [printed]; “┌┬┐” [handwritten, referring to the shape of hind coxal plate]; “ Scirtes / ephippiatus / Ch.” [handwritten].
Additional specimen studied. Male ( ZMAN): “Boekit Gabah / Z. W. K. Sumatra / Leg. H. Lucht / I. 1919 ” [printed label]; “coll. F. C. / DRESCHER” [printed label]. Male ( EUM): “ Kota Cane , Aceh / N. Sumatra / 26–28 IV 1998 / H. Takizawa ” [printed label] .
Diagnosis. The characteristic dorsal pattern with black elytra and orange, transverse macula, allows the differentiation of this species from other members of the genus.
Redescription. Holotype, male. Body oval, TL/EW 1.3, moderately convex, covered with brownish setae. Head, pronotum and scutellum brownish-black, elytra brownish-black with large subtrapezoidal orange macula in central portion of elytra. Mouthparts, anterior and mesal legs yellowish, posterior legs brownish, antennae orange, darkening apically. Ventral portion brown.
Head with distinct punctation, punctures large and deep, separated by ca. 1.0 diameter. Eyes big, protuberant; head 1.6 X wider than interocular space. Antennae filiform. Antennomere 1 subcylindrical, antennomere 2 subcylindrical, antennomere 3 triangular, slightly shorter than antennomere 2, antennomeres 4–10 elongated, antennomeres 4–7 ca. 1.5 X longer than antennomere 2, antennomeres 8–10 slightly shorter, apical antennomere absent in the holotype. Palpomeres of maxillary palpi moderately widened.
Pronotum moderately convex, covered with distinct punctation, similar to that on the head, separated by ca. 1.0 diameter, anterolateral corners obtuse, slightly projecting anteriorly; lateral margins subtly rounded; posterolateral corners acute; base of pronotum bisinuate, with complete margination along basal margin; PW/ PL 2.8. Scutellum punctured as on pronotum, equilaterally triangular. Angle between pronotum and elytra not marked in dorsal outline.
Elytra oval, without longitudinal ridges, with slightly explanate lateral margins, widest in the middle, punctation stronger than on pronotum, punctures separated by ca. 1.0 diameter; humeri well marked; EL/EW 1.1; EL/PL 4.3; EW/PW 1.4.
Legs moderately long. Hind tibial spurs well developed, dorsal one almost straight, unmodified, as long as 3/4 length of tarsomere 1 (based on the additional specimen studied) and over twice as long as ventral one; ventral spur slightly curved.
Ventrite 1 with sparse setation in mesal portion, ventrite 2 with basal row of big punctures. Apex of tergite 7 unmodified. Apex of ventrite 5 subtly emarginated.
Sternite 9 (L 0.40, W 0.24) elongated, consisting of two triangular hemisternites, with moderately long, sparse setae at apical margin, apices well sclerotized and hooked. Tergite 8 (L 0.43, W 0.40) moderately sclerotized, apical portion subtrapezoidal, with rounded anterior margin, bearing moderately long setae on apical margin, apodemes long, diverging basally; tergite 9 (L 0.40, W 0.40) small, moderately sclerotized, with very narrow apical portion and minute setae at apex, with a pair of moderately short apodemes, strongly diverging basally. Tegmen (L 0.46, W 0.33) large, well sclerotized, parameres relatively wide, with rounded apical portions, mesal process narrow, much shorter than parameres. Penis (L 0.30, W 0.10) small, membranous, parameroids short, relatively wide, outcurved, mesal process shorter than pala.
Variability. TL 2.9–3.1. Orange elytral macula more or less transverse.
Female unknown.
Measurements. Males (n = 2): TL 2.90–3.10, PL 0.45–0.64, PW 1.40–1.78, EL 2.60–2.75, EW 2.10– 2.48.
Distribution. N Borneo (Quop), Sumatra (Boekit Gabah).
