Diagnosis. The species is similar to E. decemnotatus (Champion) , but each elytron bears only four yellow spots, and parameres are narrowing apically (widening apically in E. decemguttatus ). The dorsal pattern somewhat resembles that of E. takizawai sp. nov., but the tegmen of E. ceylonicus sp. nov. is totally different.
Description. Holotype, male. Body oval, TL/EW 1.3, moderately convex, covered with yellowish-brown setae. Head, pronotum and scutellum dark brown, elytra dark brown with contrasting yellow pattern consisting of four spots: two oval (humeral and posterior) and two subrectangular (adscutellar and apical). Adscutellar and apical spots of both elytra fuse into larger spots; adscutellar spots are arrow-like when combined. Humeral spot extending to elytral margin. Mouthparts and antennae yellowish, legs dark brown, tibiae lighter, yellowish-brown. Ventral portion dark brown.
Head with subtle punctation, punctures separated by ca. 2.0 diameters. Eyes moderately big, not protuberant; head 1.6 X wider than interocular space. Antennae filiform (antennomeres 8–11 absent in holotype). Antennomere 1 cylindrical, antennomere 2 shorter than antennomere 1, cylindrical, antennomere 3 as long as antennomere 2, subtriangular, antennomeres 4–7 slightly shorter than antennomeres 2 and 3 combined. Palpomeres of maxillary palpi only slightly widened.
Pronotum slightly convex, covered with subtle punctation, slightly stronger than on head, separated by ca. 2.0 diameters, anterolateral corners obtuse, slightly projecting anteriorly; lateral margins subtly rounded; posterolateral corners acute; base of pronotum bisinuate, with complete groove along basal margin; PW/PL 2.9. Scutellum punctured as on pronotum, equilaterally triangular. Angle between pronotum and elytra not marked in dorsal outline.
Elytra oval, lateral margins not explanate, widest in the middle, punctation stronger than on pronotum, punctures separated by ca. 1.0 diameter; humeri well marked; EL/EW 1.1; EL/PL 4.7; EW/PW 1.4.
Legs moderately long. Hind tibial spurs well developed, dorsal one almost straight, unmodified, as long as tarsomere 1, and twice as long as ventral one; ventral spur almost straight.
Ventrite 1 with sparse setation in mesal portion, ventrite 2 with basal row of big punctures. Apex of tergite 7 unmodified. Apex of ventrite 5 regularly rounded.
Sternite 9 (L 0.67, W 0.31) consisting of two triangular hemisternites, with moderately long setae on apical margin. Tergite 8 (L 0.63, W 0.49) moderately sclerotized, apical portion subrectangular, bearing very short setae on apical margin, apodemes moderately long, slightly diverging basally; tergite 9 (0.60, W 0.37) moderately sclerotized, with very narrow apical portion and minute setae at apex, with a pair of moderately long apodemes, strongly diverging basally. Tegmen (0.59, W 0.30) large, well sclerotized, parameres curved mesally, apices wide, inwardly hooked, mesal process very narrow, slightly longer than parameres. Penis (L 0.51, W 0.20) small, pala elongate, parameroids short, but distinct, mesal process almost as long as pala.
Female. Humeral spot separated from elytral margin, prehensor long (L 0.95), widened in basal portion, bursal sclerite well developed.
Variability. Males TL/EW 1.2–1.3 (1.2), females TL/EW 1.3–1.4 (1.3). Humeral spot in males larger, meeting with lateral margin of elytra (in females spot is distinctly separated from elytral margin by black stripe).
Measurements. Males (n = 3): TL 2.70–3.05 (2.96), PL 0.45–0.58 (0.51), PW 1.50–1.70 (1.58), EL 2.45– 2.73 (2.54), EW 2.28–2.45 (2.39). Females (n = 8): TL 2.60–3.05 (2.84), PL 0.45–0.50 (0.49), PW 1.40–1.53 (1.47), EL 2.30–2.57 (2.50), EW 2.00–2.35 (2.14).
Distribution. Sri Lanka.
Etymology. Name refers to the terra typica of the species, Ceylon Is.
