Range: —Southern Mexico to northwestern Argentina, Paraguay, and southern Brazil. In Bolivia, known from BE, CH, CO, LP, SC, and TA.

Ecology: —Common; terrestrial or low-climbing on tree trunks, in humid and semihumid forests; often most plants are sterile at a given site; to 1600 m.

Notes: —Very variable with respect to number of pinnae, shape of the terminal blade segments, and venation.
