Elaphoglossum yungense de la Sota, Darwiniana View in CoL 18: 246, f. 5. 1973. ( Fig. 31F–L View FIGURE 31 )

Range: — Peru to northwestern Argentina. In Bolivia, known from CH, CO, LP, SC.

Ecology: —Common; saxicolous and terrestrial, only accidentally epiphytic, on rocks, roadsides, and cliffs in semihumid and humid forests; 1000–2300(–3200) m.

Sect. Polytrichia (Sodiro) Christ, Neue Denkschr. Allg. Schweiz. Ges. Gesammten Naturwiss. 36(1): 22. 1899.

A small group characterized by lack of hydathodes and by bearing subulate (inrolled) scales on the blades and petioles. In some species, the subulate scales are inrolled only at the bases and flattened distally. While the group as such is distinctive and includes some of the most familiar species of Elaphoglossum in Bolivia, the delimitation of species in the group of E. barbatum is highly problematic, and detailed research throughout the Neotropics is badly needed.
