Range: —Antilles, Mexico to Panama, Suriname and Venezuela, Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC, TA), Brazil.

Ecology: —Common; saxicolous and rarely terrestrial, on rocks or steep banks, often forming dense colonies; in humid to semihumid habitats; (1300–) 2000–3200 m.

Notes: —The hydathodes are often indistinct and easily overlooked. Closely related to, and perhaps conspecific with, E. spathulatum (Bory) T.Moore from Africa, Madagascar, Réunion, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka.
