status

Elaphoglossum cardenasii W.H.Wagner, Bull. Torrey Bot. View in CoL Club 81: 62. 1954. ( Fig. 51A–E View FIGURE 51 )

Range: —Southern Peru to Bolivia (CO, LP).

Ecology: —Fairly common; terrestrial, less commonly a low epiphyte on tree bases in humid forests; 2200–3100 m.

Notes: —The unusual blade morphology of this species was described by Wagner (1954). Elaphoglossum cardenasii is sister to E. russelliae Mickel , which differs mainly by its simple blades ( Rouhan et al. 2004). The only other species with divided blades within this section is E. simulans Mickel , which is currently known only from Peru; it differs by long-creeping rhizomes with petioles ca. 0.5–1 cm apart (vs. short creeping with petioles less than 0.5 mm apart). Both E. russelliae and E. simulans are to be expected in Bolivia.
