In an earlier study (Astrin & Stüben, 2008), we examined a female of this species (from Mt. Tagoja on La Palma) that Bahr (2000) defined as a synonym of Calacalles seticollis (type locality: El Hierro). At that time, we followed the existing classification and also determined the specimen as C. seticollis . Now, after sequencing 'further' C. seticollis individuals and after also including a male from the same locality on La Palma, we reach a different conclusion (see discussion above). The specimens from La Palma belong to a species clearly distinct from Calacalles seticollis : Calacalles palmensis (Roudier, 1954) .

As Bahr (2000) noted himself, the evidence for defining Acalles wollastoni palmensis Roudier, 1954 as a junior synonym to C. seticollis was scant: "The holotype of A. wollastoni palmensis merely consists of the abdomen. Pronotum, head, forelegs and aedeagus are missing". We reassessed the remains of the holotype of Roudier (Mus. Zool. Helsinki, No. 15065, type locality: La Palma, Caldera Taburiente). As far as a comparison is possible based on the damaged holotype, Calacalles palmensis (Roudier, 1954) is a valid species. We conclude: Calacalles palmensis (Roudier, 1954) stat. nov., resyn. Habitus and endophallus of this species are here illustrated for the first time ( Figs. 19 View FIGURES 9 – 26 , 27 View FIGURE 27 ).
