Description of holotype. Length: 4.7 mm. BODY. Shape: subparallel, Profile: convex, Color (dorsally): unicolored. HEAD. Vertex. Medial impression: present. Eyes. Size: smaller than half width of vertex (dorsal view), Lower margin: in line or below antennal socket, Median orbit: converging ventrally. Antennae. Width: antennomeres 5–10 obviously short and broad, Serration: from antennomere 4. PRONOTUM. Shape: visually elongate or square, Sides: slightly arcuate, Sides (modification): sinuate before posterior angles, Maximal width: at anterior margin, Anterior margin: wider than posterior. Anterior lobe. Shape: arcuate, Width: broad, Position: at level with anterior angles. Posterior angles. Shape: acute, Apex: sharp. Disk. Impressions: medial and lateral, Medial impression: anteromedial and posteromedial, Lateral impressions (width): broad. Prehumerus. Development: carinal, Shape: arcuate, Extent: to 1/3 of pronotal length, Anterior end: distant from lateral pronotal carina, Posterior end: distant from posterior pronotal angle or margin, Arc: weak. Lateral carinae. Convergence: moderate, Junction: absent, Narrowest point: at posterior 1/5–1/4 of marginal carina, Modifications: submarginal carina posteriorly obliterate. ELYTRA. Strip of erect pubescence: extending from prosternal lobe to base of prosternal process. Prosternal lobe. Size: large, Distal margin: arcuate. Prosternal process. Width: narrow, Shape: narrowed, Sides: straight, Angles: absent, Disc: impressed.

Metasternum. Metasternal projection: flat. ABDOMEN. Basal ventrite. Modifications: absent. Pygidium. Apical margin: arcuate. Sternal groove. Shape on apex of last ventrite: arcuate. LEGS. Metatarsus. Length to metatibia: distinctly shorter. Metatarsomere 1. Length to following tarsomeres: longer than 2–3 but shorter than 2–4. GENITALIA. Aedeagus. Symmetry: symmetric, Shape: widest in apical part, Modifications: apex of medial lobe markedly obtuse.

Variability. Body length: 4.3–6.2 mm. The sinuosity of pronotal margin at posterior pronotal angles varies from well-developed to very weak. The widest part of pronotum varies between anterior margin and middle of pronotum. Sexual dimorphism. The male with golden-green and the female with golden-red frons. The medial strip of pubescence on prosternum is longer and denser in the male.

Diagnosis. The species is very similar to A. araxenus Yablokov Khnzoryan, 1960 by the habitus, by the color, and by the pubescent and tomentose design of pronotum and elytra. It can be distinguished by the more prolonged pronotum with width/length ratio 1.3–1.4 (in A. araxenus 1.5–1.65), by the distinctly smaller body length, by sinuate posterior pronotal angles, and by the spiral sculpture at middle of anterior pronotal margin.

Type material. Type locality: Iran , Hamadan province, 12 km North of Razan, Mahnyan , altitude 2100 m. Type specimens. Holotype ♂, 4 ♂ PT, 3 ♀ PT ( EJCB): “ Iran , Prov. Hamadan, 12 km N Razan, Mahnyan, 20.- 21.6.1977, 2100 m, leg. Holzschuh & Ressl”. Other paratypes. IRAN. Fars. “S Iran, 29km E Yasuj, 2300m, 16- 17.6.1973 \ Loc. no. 245, Exp. Nat. Mus. Praha” 1 ♂ PT ( EJCB), 1 ♂ PT ( NMPC); “Iran occ., Fars prov., 40 km NW of Shiraz, Sangar vill., vi. 2011, J. Simandl lgt.” 1 ♂ PT ( EJCB).

Distribution. IRAN: Fars, Hamadan.

Etymology. Patronymic; the species is named in honor of Franc Ressl ( Austria), one of collectors of the species.

Remarks. Specimens from Iran, 29 km E Yasuj, 2300 m (see type specimens) were cited by Bílý (1983) as A. lopatini Alexeev, 1964 , which is currently a subspecies of A. araxenus Yablokov Khnzoryan, 1960 . Agrilus araxenus araxenus is known from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan while A. araxenus lopatini from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
