Euschizomerus aeneus Chaudoir, 1869 View in CoL

Fig. 1c.

Chaudoir, 1869: 118; id, 1878: 160; Bates, 1892: 303; Andrewes, 1930: 105; Hackel & Farkac, 2012: 86.

Material Examined: Holotype, labelled “Deccan”, Jeakes collection. MNHN.

Description. Length: 10.0 mm

Colour: Head, pronotum and elytra black; Antennomeres brownish black; maxillary and labial palpomeres yellowish red.

Head: Small, Shiny, slightly convex in the middle, narrower than pronotum, strongly bulging eyes, long and deep frontal furrows reaching about the level of posterior margin of eye. Labrum small, angles weakly rounded, smooth, anterior margin strongly emarginated, four long setae present on anterior margin, both ends of anterior margin with bunch of mini brush like setae. Clypeus smooth, with single long setae on either sides, straight margin. Apical labial and maxillary palpomeres moderately expanded apically. Mandibles fairly short, tip not crossing each other. Vertex roughly punctured. Genae and gula shiny. Antennae elongate.

Pronotum: Wider than head, transverse. Dorsal and ventral side roughly punctured and covered by greyish yellow coloured setae, straight anterior and posterior margins, narrowly rounded to the anterior corners, broadest at centre, expands behind the middle, posterior corners obtuse. The lateral marginal edge of the pronotum extremely thin, anterior corner strongly bent. Lateral margin expanded in the middle and sinuate behind the middle. Prosternal process with wide rounded base without margin;

Scutellum: triangular, asetose.

Metepisterna considerably longer than broad, strongly punctured.

Elytra: Long, highly convex, weakly ovoid, covered with greyish yellow coloured setae, 2.7 times as long as pronotum, Striae with deep punctures, Intervals weakly convex and punctured, equal in width, apex obliquely truncate and weakly emarginated. Elytral suture line has a narrow gap at the apex and not closed, projected humerus weakly sloping, slightly rounded on the sides, widest behind the middle.

Hind wing: fully grown.

Legs: reddish brown. Tarsi hairy dorsal and ventral, thick patch of setae covered in ventral side of all tarsal segments.

Geographic Distribution: Myanmar (Taik Kyi, (Pegu) ; “Deccan” (Probably Bangladesh: Dacca) .

Remarks: Euschizomerus aeneus differs from E. devagiriensis with broad and apically rounded prosternal process in contrast to the slender and apically pointed prosternal process and medially expanded lateral margin of pronotum which is rounded in E. devagiriensis . Type locality of the holotype is labelled as “Deccan” by Chaudoir 1869. However, its distribution in central Indian region of Deccan plateau is a point of contention, as Andrewes 1930 added the comment, “Deccan” (Probably Bangladesh: Dacca) indicating that Dacca was mislabelled as Deccan.
