Material studied. Holotype male. RUSSIA, Adygeya Republic, Guseripel National Park, Abago Station, 2200 m, sweep-net, 29.VII.1994, Mohrig (in PWMP). Paratypes. 2 males, same data as holotype (in PWMP), 1 male, same data but 30.VII.1994 (in PWMP), 1 male, same data as previous but 2.VIII.1994 (in PWMP).

Description. Male. Head. Brown, antenna paler brown, maxillary palpus very pale brown. Eye bridge 2–3 facets wide. Face with scattered dark longer and shorter setae. Clypeus with 1–2 dark setae. Maxillary palpus with 3 palpomeres; palpomere 1 longer than palpomere 3, palpomere 2 shortest; palpomere 1 with 1 long sharp seta, with a distinct dorsal pit of sensilla; palpomere 2 with 1 long sharp seta and 6–7 shorter truncate setae, palpomere 3 with 6–8 short truncate setae. Body of antennal flagellomere 4 2.95–3.15x as long as wide, the neck shorter than broad, the longest setae longer than the width of flagellomere. Thorax. Brown, setae dark. Anterior pronotum with 2–6 setae. Episternum 1 with 3–6 setae. Wing. Length 1.5–1.7 mm. Width/length 0.40. R1/R 0.65–0.95. c/ w 0.65 –0.85. r-m and bM subequal in length, r-m/bM 0.80–1.20, r-m with 2–4 dorsal setae, bM non-setose. Halter pale brown. Legs. Pale yellowish brown. Coxal setae dark. Front tibial organ in depression with vestiture in patch. Front tibial spur slightly longer than the tibial width. Abdomen. Pale brown, setae dark and long and strong. Hypopygium, Figs 6 View FIGURE 6 A, B. Brown, concolorous with abdomen. Gonocoxa slightly longer than gonostylus. Gonostylus with the mesial side strongly impressed; apicomesially with a few elongated setae; with apical tooth, with 2 apical megasetae, with 2 mesial megasetae, the mesial megasetae larger than the apical ones, the basalmost one much longer, all nearly straight; with a flagellate seta between the mesial megasetae. Tegmen longer than broad, conical, latero-medially slightly sclerotized.

Discussion. In its gonostylus with rather straight mesial megasetae, and its long tegmen, Camptochaeta orthochaeta most closely resembles C. coei (Freeman, 1983) (see Hippa & Vilkamaa 1994) but can be distinguished from it and from all other Camptochaeta with two mesial megasetae on the gonostylus in having the basalmost megaseta very long, almost twice the length of the other megaseta. In all specimens, both mesial megasetae have obliquely cut apices, but we could not determine whether this is a true characteristic or an artefact ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 B). Furthermore, the longest thoracic setae of C. orthochaeta are exceptionally long.

Etymology. The name is composed of the Greek words orthos, straight, and chaite, seta, latinized as chaeta, referring to the straight mesial megasetae of the gonostylus.
