Material examined. Syntypes: 1 male: ‘Ex-Typis / Coll. et det. A. Fauvel, Eupiestus spinifer Fauv. R.I.Sc.N.B. 17. 479 / Carin Chebà, 900-1100 m, L. Fea V XII-(18)88’ ( RBINS); 1 female: ‘Ex-Typis / Coll. et det. A. Fauvel, Eupiestus spinifer Fauv. R.I.Sc.N.B. 17. 479 / Carin Ghecù, 1300-1400 m, L. Fea II-III(18)88’ ( RBINS). Additional material: 1 male: ‘ China: Yunnan Province, Lincang City (‰±ffi), Yun Hsien (*θ), Manwan Town (( affiffi), Xiyi Villege Committee ( AAIJA *), Shuibatou Villege (*ffi*IJ) (ca. 24°42′N, 100°21′E), 2200 m, 10.ii.2016, Zi-Chun Xiong leg.’ ( SNUC).

Supplementary description. Measurements of male from Yunnan: BL 7.37 mm; HLh 1.48 mm; HL 1.15 mm; HW 1.68 mm; AnL 6.86 mm; length of each antennomeres: I 0.88 mm, II 0.73 mm, III 0.56 mm, IV 0.48 mm, V 0.43 mm, VI 0.62 mm, VII 0.62 mm, VIII 0.64 mm, IX 0.61 mm, X 0.61 mm, XI 0.68 mm; PL 1.38 mm; PW 1.78 mm; EL 1.60 mm; EW 2.15 mm; AL 2.91 mm; AW 1.93 mm, AeL 0.85 mm.

Male. Head, pronotum, and abdomen uniformly black, elytra black ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) or in some specimens reddish brown between elytral costae ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 A–B), mouthparts, antennomeres VI–XI, and legs reddish black. Dorsal surface of body coarsely punctate, most punctures with white waxy secretion. Head with anterior margins of frons and antennal tubercles greatly projecting ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A). Submentum ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 B) sparsely punctate, with two distinct pits, each pit with two setae inside; gular area slightly depressed medially, finely and sparsely punctate. Narrow portion of prosternite along midline finely and sparsely punctate, lateral regions coarsely punctate, paranotal sulci complete. Mesoventrite with microsculpture and shallow punctation. Metaventrite finely punctate in median region, laterally coarsely punctate. Tergite VIII ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A) entire, narrowing from base to apex, posterior area with six preapical macrosetae; tergites IX–X ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 C) each with several macrosetae posteriorly and numerous small setae at posterior margin of X. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B) transverse, posterior margin sinuate, with row of eight macrosetae preapically; sternite IX ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 D) elongate, weakly sclerotized, posterior margin with many small setae and several curved macrosetae. Aedeagus ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E–G) symmetric, median lobe strongly narrowed at apical onefourth, with membranous apical portion; parameres in lateral view expanded from base to apex, round apex densely setose; endophallus composed of trapezoidal basal and thin, elongate median sclerites.

Comments. The single male ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) from Yunnan has a uniformly black body and relatively shorter frontal projections ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ), while the syntypes of this species have reddish brown areas between the elytral costae ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ), and the male has relatively longer frontal projections. Such differences fall into intraspecific variation of this widespread species.

Distribution. This species was previously known from Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India ( Herman 2001), and is here recorded from China (Yunnan) for the first time. New country record.
