Diagnosis. Pselaphomorphus raffrayi is characterized by the combination of medium body size (between 2.0 and 3.0 mm), antennae with five-segmented clava and the presence of spines between the antebasal and lateral pronotal lobes.
Description. Male. Body length 2.6 mm. Body flattened dorsally, reddish, with yellow pilosity. Head pearshaped (length 0.6 mm, width 0.55 mm), base of antennal tubercle as long as diameter of eye. Longitudinal sulcus wider behind eyes, spindle-shaped. Eyes kidney-shaped (diameter 0.15 mm). Antennal length 1.6 mm. Antennomere length as follows: 1 (0.1 mm), 2 and 3 (0.08 mm), 4 (0.06 mm), 5 (0.08 mm), 6 (0.06 mm), 7 to 10 (0.12 mm), and 11 (0.24 mm), clava conspicuous. Maxillary palpi light brown, with short and even pilosity. Pronotum transverse (length 0.6 mm, width 0.65 mm). Antebasal lobe rectangular, at least five times wider than long. Pronotal disc oval, longitudinal and transverse sulci wider towards edges. Spines between antebasal lobe and lateral lobes present. Elytra length 0.55 mm, width 1.0 mm. Humeral teeth absent, humeral elevation present. Sutural fovea round and deep, sutural stria prolonging beyond middle of elytra. Basal discal fovea rounded, followed by discal depression. Abdominal segments I–V dorsally with length as follows: 0.3, 0.1, 0.1, 0.1, 0.1 (mm). Ventrally, segment V distally round, segment VI with round depression, pygidial suture present, V-shaped. Genitalia. Phallobase irregular, globose, asymmetrical. Median lobe curved dorsally. Accessory lobe narrow, curved spirally, located towards median lobe right ( Figs. 27 View FIGURE 27 B, 27C).
Type material. Holotype (male): “ Peru, Junin, Province Satipo Upper River Pampa Hermosa basin, Calabazas. 11°30.62’S, 74°49.23’W. 2400–2500 m. IV-6 to 7-2009. Flight intercept trap. A.K. Tishechkin” ( FMNH).
Etymology. Patronymic. Named after the French taxonomist and morphologist Achille Raffray, who described four species of Pselaphomorphus and many other species of insects from around the world.
