Diagnosis. Pselaphomorphus santaecrucis is characterized by the combination of reddish coloration and yellow pilosity. This species can be differentiated from P. iguazuensis based on the accessory lobe of aedeagus cylindrical and elongate.
Description. Male. Body length 2.1 mm. Body flattened dorsally, reddish with yellow pilosity. Head pearshaped (length 0.6 mm, width 0.4 mm), base of antennal tubercle as long as diameter of eye. Longitudinal sulcus wider between eyes, spindle-shaped. Eyes kidney-shaped (diameter 0.1 mm). Antennal length 1.5 mm. Antennomere length as follows: 1 (0.12 mm), 2 (0.08 mm), 3 and 4 (0.06 mm), 5 and 6 (0.08 mm), 7 to 9 (0.12 mm), 10 (0.1 mm), and 11 (0.2 mm), clava conspicuous. Maxillary palpi amber, with short and even pilosity. Pronotum quadrate (length and width 0.4 mm). Lateral lobes trapezoidal, basally and apically round. Antebasal lobe rectangular, at least five times wider than long. Pronotal disc oval, longitudinal and transverse sulci wider towards edges. Elytra length 0.5 mm, width 0.8 mm. Humeral teeth present. Sutural fovea round and deep, sutural stria extending beyond elytra middle. Basal discal fovea rounded. Abdominal segments I–V dorsally with length as follows: 0.4, 0.2, 0.1, 0.1, 0.1 (mm). Ventrally, segment V distally round, segment VI without depression, pygidial suture not visible. Genitalia. Phallobase irregular. Median lobe divided basally into two pieces. Ventral piece long, slender and complete. Dorsal piece short and less evident than ventral piece, surrounding it. Accessory lobe cylindrical, distally acute, articulated ventrally to arm of phallobase, in contact with ventral piece of median lobe ( Figs. 28 View FIGURE 28 B, 28C).
Type material. Holotype (male): “ Bolivia, Santa Cruz, 4–5 km SSE Buena Vista, Hotel Flora y Fauna. 440 m. 17°29.95’S, 63°39.1’W. Flight intercept trap. XII-14 to 24-2003. S. & J. Peck” ( FMNH).
Etymology. Named after the region of Santa Cruz in Bolivia where the holotype was collected.
