Diagnosis. Pselaphomorphus acutispinosus is characterized by the combination of a reddish coloration and mesotrochanters each armed with ventral spine.
Description. Male. Body length 2.6 mm. Body flattened dorsally, reddish, with yellow pilosity. Head pearshaped (length 0.55 mm, width 0.4 mm), base of antennal tubercle as long as diameter of eye. Longitudinal sulcus wider between eyes, spindle-shaped. Eyes kidney-shaped (diameter 0.15 mm). Antennal length: 1.9 mm. Antennomere lengths as follows: 1 (0.1 mm), 2 (0.06 mm), 3 and 4 (0.08 mm), 5 to 9 (0.12 mm), 10 (0.14 mm), and 11 (0.28 mm), clava absent. Maxillary palpi light brown, with short and even pilosity. Pronotum quadrate (length 0.5 mm, width 0.5 mm). Lateral lobes triangular, basal angle square. Antebasal lobe rectangular, at least five times wider than long. Pronotal disc oval, longitudinal and transverse sulci wider towards edges. Elytra length 0.8 mm, width 0.9 mm. Humeral teeth and elevation present. Sutural fovea round and deep, sutural stria broad proximally. Basal discal fovea rounded, discal depression absent. Abdominal segments I–V dorsally with lengths as follows: 0.7, 0.15, 0.1, 0.1, 0.15 (mm). Ventrally segment V distally round, VI with rounded depression, pygidial suture present. Mesotrochanter armed with ventral spine. Genitalia. Phallobase triangular, without evident arms. Median lobe long, basally divided into two unequal arms. Right arm short, semi-cylindrical, with membranous apex. Left arm long and cylindrical, apex truncate and membranous. Accessory lobes absent ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 C, 4D).
Type material. Holotype (male): “ Peru, Junin, 3 km S. Satipo, Ricardo Palma. 780 m. 16°52.0’S, 74°58.52’W. III-19 to 21-2009. Forest litter. A. K. Tishechkin” ( FMNH). Paratype: 1 male, same information as the holotype ( LSAM).
Etymology. The name refers to the acute spine on the mesotrochanter.
