Range: —Southern Peru (rare) and Bolivia (LP).
Ecology: —Uncommon or locally common; epiphytic or rarely epilithic in wet montane forests, elfin forests; 2500–3200.
Notes: —Distinguished from M. flabelliformis and M. moniliformis and its varieties by the broad rhizome scales with numerous clustered, branched, clavate hairs at the scale tips (vs. apical glands inserted on cell in all other Melpomene species). Often growing with M. paradoxa .
