Grammitis Sw., J. Bot. (Schrader) 1800 (2): 17. 1801.
Grammitis s.s. is characterized by entire leaves with black or dark brown sclerenchymatous margins. Due to the difficulties of delimitating genera within the subfam. Grammitidoideae View in CoL , previous workers (e.g., Tryon & Stolze 1993) included most species of grammitids in one broadly defined genus, Grammitis . As defined here, in a greatly restricted sense, Grammitis contains about 10 neotropical species ( Bishop 1977), plus a few more in Africa, Madagascar, and one in Polynesia; four species are known from Bolivia. Labiak & Prado (2003) treated the Brazilian species of Grammitis .
