Range: —Disjunct in Lesser Antilles, Trinidad & Tobago, and northern Venezuela; coastal Brazil from Ceará south to eastern Paraguay, northeastern Argentina, and Uruguay; Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, SC).

Ecology: —Common; epiphytic and saxicolous in deciduous and semideciduous forests; 200–1400(2300) m.

Notes: —This one of the most variable species in the genus, and may represent a species complex. Sterile fronds vary in shape, from round to oblong, and size, ranging from 1/4 to half the size of the fertile frond.
