= Polypodium reptans Cav., Anales Hist. Nat. 1: 104. 1799.
Range: — Trinidad & Tobago; southern Mexico to Panama; Colombia to Guianas and Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, PA, SC); Brazil.
Ecology: —Common; epiphytic, rarely saxicolous, in humid forests; 150–1000(1450) m.

There is great variation in the sterile frond shape, ranging from elliptic and ovate to lanceolate. The most similar species is M. tobagensis , from which M. reptans can be separated by the dark blade scales and obscure venation (vs. light brown to whitish blade scales and visible venation, with veins darker than the blade).
