Campyloneurum nitidissimum (Mett.) Ching, Sunyatsenia View in CoL 5: 263. 1940, var. nitidissimum
= Polypodium nitidissimum Mett., Ann. Sci. Nat., Bot. Sér. View in CoL 5, 2: 258. 1864.
Range: — Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia.
Ecology: —Rare, terrestrial; to 500 m.
Notes: —This taxon belongs to the C. phyllitidis - C. brevifolium complex. It is distinguished by the long, linear dark brown rhizome scales, and appears to be much less common than var. latius in Bolivia.
Campyloneurum nitidissimum (Mett.) Ching var. latius (Rosenst.) B. León, Fieldiana, Bot., n.s., 32: 172. 1993 (as var. latior ).
= Polypodium nitidissimum Mett. var. latius Rosenst. View in CoL (as var. latior ), Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 12: 474. 1913.
Range: — Colombia to Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC, TA).
Ecology: —Fairly common low epiphyte or terrestrial, in disturbed forests or open areas; 600–2000 m.
Notes: —This taxon is distinguished from the type variety by having herbaceous-chartaceous leaves, usually> 5 cm wide (vs. subcoriaceous leaves, usually less than 5 cm wide). Lime dots can occur at the base of the blades. Campyloneurum nitidissimum var. latius sometimes resembles C. abruptum , but it differs from it by having divided, almost polygonal areoles, and by the dark-colored rhizome scales with dark yellowish to occluded lumina.
