Range: —Greater Antilles; mountains from Costa Rica to Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC, TA), Argentina, and Chile; Africa; Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands; India and Sri Lanka.
Ecology: —Very common; epiphytic and rarely saxicolous in semihumid forests, often dominated by Podocarpus , Polylepis , or Myrtaceae ; (1100) 1500–4250 m.
Notes: —Species of this group, with simple blades and including also P. astrolepis , were initially treated by Weatherby (1922).
