Elephantomyia (Elephantomyia) carbo Alexander, 1938a: 326 View in CoL . Type locality: Mt. Emei, Leshan, Sichuan ( China).

Diagnosis. Rostrum slightly shorter than body. Notum and pleuron uniformly black. Wing with brown spot on stigma and broad bands along CuA, cord, m-m and basal section of M3; basal section of CuA1 at 2/5 of cell dm, cell a2 relatively broad. Abdomen uniformly black.

Description. Male. Body length 6.5–8.0 mm, wing length 8.0– 9.5 mm, rostrum length 5.0–6.0 mm.

Head. Brownish black. Hairs on head black. Antenna (fig. 3) length 1.0– 1.2 mm. Scape brownish black; pedicel dark brown; flagellomeres black. Flagellomeres except first flagellomere nearly equal in length; first flagellomere elongate and enlarged, nearly twice as long as second flagellomere. Rostrum black with black hairs.

Thorax. Uniformly black. Notum and pleuron (fig. 2) black with surface shiny. Hairs on thorax white. Coxae black; trochanters brownish yellow; femora black with bases yellow; tibiae black; tarsi brownish black to brownish yellow. Hairs on legs black. Wing (fig. 4) brownish yellow, brown spot on stigma and broad bands along CuA, cord, m-m and basal section of M3; veins brown. Venation: Sc1 ending at or just beyond fork of Rs, Sc2 near its tip; basal section of CuA1 beyond fork of M and at 2/5 of cell dm; cell a2 relatively broad. Haltere length 1.0– 1.2 mm, white with knob darker.

Abdomen (fig. 2). Tergites and sternites uniformly black. Hairs on abdomen white.

Hypopygium (figs. 5–6). Generally brownish black. Posterior margin of tergite nine with broad and shallow Ushaped notch. Gonocoxite conical with a light spot on dorsal face. Clasper of gonostylus slender and slightly curved, tip bidentate. Lobe of gonostylus stout and curved, tip slender and blunt. Interbase conical and curved to aedeagus, tip acute. Aedeagus very long, slender and curly, but base stout.

Female. Unknown.

Specimens examined. Holotype male (USNM), China: Sichuan, Leshan, Mt. Emei (2743 m), 1937. VI.12, Tsen Bao-chi. Paratype: 1 male (USNM), same data as holotype.

Distribution. China (Sichuan).
