Taraxacum rivale Doll (1978: 639 , Plate LXXV), described as a member of T. sect. Alpestria

Type indication:—“Typus: Holotypus im h Doll / Locus typicus: Borovez, Bachrand, 1300 m. 8. 7. 76. Doll“, also Plate LXXV: „ Taraxacum rivale Doll sp. nov. – Holotypus ”.

Type :— Flora von Bulgarien, Rila-Gebirge , Borovez , Bachrand , 8 Jul [19]76, R. Doll [as T. rivale sp. nov. Holotypus!] ( JE, no. det. 19048, holotype; isotype: JE, no. det. 19049) .

Specimens of the OM:—There are three herbarium specimens belonging to the OM of T. rivale . The first one, corresponding to the photograph on Plate LXXV, consists of fragments of three plants without flowers, with well developed achenes in a separate envelope; this specimen, in accordance with the label text and type indications, is recognized as the holotype. Sheet II is of little use; it contains a plant fragment, a few loose leaves (probably not conspecific with the main fragment), a few florets in an envelope, together with achenes obviously belonging to several taxa. The loose leaves probably belong to plants on Sheet III. The latter does not bear any name, and it is not clear why it remains in JE as a part of the OM of T. rivale . Five plants on the sheet belong to T. hamosius .

Conclusion:—The holotype probably belongs to a species of T. sect. Rhodocarpa (= T. sect. Alpestria) but we were unable to equate it with any of the taxa recognized by us. A part of the material preserved under the name T. rivale belongs to T. hamosius but does not constitute an element of the OM.
