Taraxacum borovezum Doll (1978: 635 , Plate LXXIII), described as a member of T. sect. Alpestria

Type indication:—“Typus: Holotypus im h Doll / Locus typicus: Borovez, am Sessellift, ca. 1600 m. 11. 7. 76. Doll“; also Plate LXXIII: „ Taraxacum borovezum Doll sp. nov. – Holotypus ”.

Type :— Flora von Bulgarien, Rila-Gebirge , Borovez , Sessellift., 11 Jul [19]76, R. Doll [as Taraxacum borovezum ] ( JE, no. det. 19056, holotype; isotype: JE, no. det. 19055) .

Specimens of the OM:—There are three specimens belonging to the OM. Herbarium sheet I (JE, no. det. 19055) is in an envelope labelled as Holotype; there are two poorly developed plantlets, not photographed for Plate LXXIII. They may be conspecific with the holotype – Sheet II (JE, no. det. 19056). The latter herbarium sheet contains two plants with relatively well developed leaves, remnants of florets and ripe achenes, both plants are on Plate LXXIII, and represent an evident holotype. The sheet III (JE, no. det. 19057) does not bear any collection date, nor an exact locality. Plants on it probably are conspecific with the holotype. – There is a problem associated with the collection date of the holotype specimen. The protologue gives July 11, 1976, as the collection date, and this date corresponds to what was written on the label by R. Doll originally. However, R. Doll corrected the date later, and gave July 7 as the collection date of the holotype, and the same date is on the isotype label. A check of other taxa for collection dates along the „Sessellift“ [cableway] does not help because both July 11 and July 7 were collection days. We suppose that R. Doll corrected the date later, after the publication date; the correction does not affect the validity of the name nor the typification, in our opinion.

Conclusion:—In all likelihood, the OM of T. borovezum is homogeneous and represents a taxon that is clearly conspecific with the holotype of T. erzincanense Doll (1975: 199) , the correct name for this taxon. This identification is quite certain, despite the low quality of the type gathering of T. borovezum . The name itself is rather mangled grammatically; it was probably meant to be derived from the local village name Borovets [Боровец]. Taraxacum erzincanense is a relatively widespread, phytogeographically important species of an unclear sectional position.
