Clodionus gen. n.

Type species. Clodionus fizoli sp. n..

Diagnosis. Anterior portion of vertex produced in front of compound eyes. Anterior margin of vertex straight, anterolateral margins diverging posteriad; posterior margin of vertex widely triangulately incised. Fore wing distinctly widened apically. Antennae 8-segmented. Antennal segment III about 1.5× longer than IV. Pronotum in form of massive band, of similar length in middle and lateral portions, with triangularly produced anterior margin. Hind tibia scarcely setose.

Remarks. Clodionus differs from the other fossils from Oise amber by anterior portion of vertex distinctly produced with anterior margin of vertex straight (arcuate or angulate in the others); shape of the pronotum, with similar width in median and lateral portions (pronotum more delicate, or narrower in median portion than in lateral ones among the Oise fossils); pronotum with anterior margin triangularly produced (arcuate among the other genera from Oise amber). Clodionus is similar to the recent Aleurodicus neglectus Quaintance & Baker in shape of the anterior margin of the head, but the structure of the pronotum (narrow in median portion in Aleurodicus ) and number of antennal segments clearly differs.

Etymology. This genus is named after Clodion—the king of Merovings. Gender: masculine.
