Distribution. Western Atlantic: Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, Brazil (Amapá, Pará, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia , Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul), Argentina; Eastern Pacific (?): Gulf of California to Panama ( Bordin 1987; Melo et al. 1989; Melo 1998; Coelho et al. 2008; Almeida et al. 2010; Lima Júnior et al. 2010; present study).

Remarks. Melo (1996) provided a general map showing the presence of Pilumnus reticulatus along almost the entire coast of Brazil, including Ceará, although to our best knowledge there was not a single confirmed record of this species for this state published in taxonomic literature. Therefore, the present material represents the first confirmation of the occurrence of this species in Ceará. The identity of the eastern Pacific material of P. reticulatus needs to be confirmed.
