Allox gen. nov.

Type-species: Allox transfigurata sp. nov., the only included species.

Etymology. arbitrary combination of letters (f noun).

Diagnosis. Distinctly dorsoventrally compressed, with face horizontal, as in Platycotta Maa (Hindolini), but head and thorax more strongly flattened, coronal margin forming a sharp rim semicircularly notched by small antennal pit; antenna with postpedicel withdrawn into tip of pedicel, with marginal arista excavated at base by large pit containing mitten-shaped basiconic sensillum, with pit surrounded by an arcuate row of five prominently margined coeloconic sensilla ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 18 – 32 C); pronotum finely and densely striate, striae diverging from fore border towards humeral angles and hind border ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 10 – 16 A); tegmina irregularly pustulate, pitted throughout; veins weakly raised, inconspicuous; apical cells in nearly transverse row with veins turned perpendicular to circumambient vein ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 40 – 46 A). Hind wing broadly rounded at tip, Cu fork large ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 40 – 46 B). Hind tibia twice as long as fore tibia, 3 × as long as wide across apex, its pecten with 5 black-tipped spines; basitarsomere half as long as tibia, with 6 dark spines, and second tarsomere with 5 such spines. Male pygofer with long process from dorsal margin, minutely serrate on upper and lower edges, below this a low, setose prominence ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 10 – 16 B); styles in dorsal aspect strongly constricted at apical third, bearing long setae. Ovipositor 2nd valvulae 1.1 mm long, foliaceous, 4 × as long as wide at midlength, tip parabolically pointed ( Fig. 17C View FIGURES 17 A – R ).

Remarks. The head is so strongly flattened that the basal segment of the antenna is clearly visible, although dorsally the antennal pit wraps tightly around the antenna as in other Clastopteridae . This genus is similar to Hindola Kirkaldy in having a basitarsomere half as long as the tibia but the antennal pit notches the coronal margin, the coeloconic sensilla form a curvilinear series around the basiconic sensillum instead of being scattered, and the styles are plesiomorphic for the tribe instead of having a very short, twisted tip as in Hindola ( Maa 1963, fig. 14).
