Cymindis Latreille, 1806 View in CoL

Type species. Buprestis humeralis Geoffřoy, 1785

Cymindis Latreille, 1806 View in CoL is the largest genus in subtribe Cymindidina View in CoL with more than 220 taxa in 15 subgenera. It is the most speciose and widespread genus that extends to Nearctic, Neotropical, and Palaearctic zoogeographical regions ( Bousquet 2012), with exception of Australia ( Ball & Hilchie 1983). The Palaearctic region contributes most of the diversity with 167 species ( Kabak 2003; Bousquet 2012). The members of the subgenus Cymindis View in CoL sensu stricto from the South of the Arabian Peninsula can be separated from these genera and subgenera by: last labial palpomeres dilated and truncate at apex; temples pubescent; pronotum cordiform; elytra with complete striae; wings usually reduced; males with 1–3 dilated protarsomeres and with serrate adhesive setae underneath; tarsal claws pectinate ( Lindroth 1974; Ball & Hilchie 1983: Bousquet 2010). Hitherto only three species of Cymindis View in CoL have been recorded from Saudi Arabia, C. andreae Ménétriés 1832 View in CoL , this species was recently transferred to the subgenus Arrhostus Motschulsky 1864 ( Sundukov, 2005) ; C. (s. str.) suturalis Dejean, 1825 View in CoL ( Mateu 1986; El-Hawagry et al. 2013) and C. (s. str.) laevistriata Lucas, 1846 ( Basilewsky 1979) . During the present work only C. andreae View in CoL and C. suturalis View in CoL were collected in the southwestern Saudi Arabia.
