Centris obsoleta Lepeletier View in CoL de Saint Fargeau, 1841: 153

Centris obsoleta pleuralis Friese, 1901: 272 View in CoL [New lectotype designation]. New junior subjective synonymy.

Centris obsoleta pleuralis View in CoL lectotype (♀, Figs 17–20 View FIGURES 17 – 20 ): Friese based the description on a manuscript name provided by Mocsáry (“Mocs. i. l.” or Mocsáry in litteris) from an unknown number of specimens in HNHM. The single female labeled “Piauchy / Brasilia [printed]”, “848 / 87”, “28.” [green label], “ C. obsoleta View in CoL ♀ / v. pleuralis View in CoL / det. Friese 1898 / Mocs.” is here designated as the lectotype. The type locality is Piauí, Brazil, and according to the accession book at HNHM the specimen was purchased from E. Menkl in 1889. Moure et al. (2007) considered C. obsoleta View in CoL and C. pleuralis View in CoL as two valid and distinct species. However, our examination of both primary types indicates the opposite and they are here considered synonymies. A syntype of C. obsoleta View in CoL is in OUMNH.
