Comments
This arrangement is supported only by one homoplastic character of the length of the uncus (67: 2), but the general morphology of the male and female genitalia supports this arrangement of genera. Although it was not possible to code some of the common characters because of the difficulty of establishing the primary homology, or because some states were overlapping, some traits of the male and female genitalia, such as the shape of the uncus, the morphology of the aedeagus and valva, as well as the morphology of the bursa, signum, ductus bursae, and the sterigma agree with the taxonomic attribution.
Imara acraeoides ( Fig. 23) shares with I. satrapes ( Fig. 26) the mimetic wing pattern of Acraeini (Nymphalidae) , which seems to be plesiomorphic in this lineage.
Imara therapon ( Fig. 24) is one of the two species previously included in Athis and distributed in southeast America. As suggested by J. M. González (pers. comm.), I. therapon and A. amalthaea may be part of the same group, which means that, similarly to I. therapon , A. amalthaea may be more closely related to Imara than to Athis .
