Material

Diagnosis

The new species is distinguished from other species by male clypeus with thick spines and both sides of PMEM ( Figures 17C View Figure 17 , 18B View Figure 18 ); numerous short spines on palpal tibia

and patella in retrolateral view ( Figure 17B View Figure 17 ); the median apophysis (M) rectangular, with marginal teeth ( Figures 17A,B View Figure 17 , 25F View Figure 25 ).

Description

Male holotype. Total length 2.04. Carapace smooth, 0.92 long, 0.87 wide, height at fovea 0.76 times carapace width, yellowish; thoracic fovea brown, needle-shaped. Clypeus 0.21 high, yellowish, with 10 thick spines ( Figures 17C View Figure 17 , 18B View Figure 18 ). Chelicerae 0.46 long, yellowish, with eight teeth and one denticle on promargin and four denticles on retromargin; eight short setae on base ( Figure 17D View Figure 17 ). Eyeless only ALEMs, PLEMs and PMEMs remain on ocular area, two thick spines both sides of PMEMs ( Figures 17C View Figure 17 , 18B View Figure 18 ). Sternum 0.59 long, 0.61 wide, haired; labium 0.09 long, 0.17 wide, yellowish.

Leg measurements (femur + patella + tibia + metatarsus + tarsus = total): I: 2.19 + 0.36 + lack + lack + lack =?; II: 1.94 + 0.36 + 1.94 + 1.53 + 1.07 = 6.83; III: 1.68 + 0.31 + 1.53 + 1.31 + 0.87 = 5.71; IV: 2.04 + 0.31 + 2.04 + 1.79 + 1.12 = 7.29. Leg yellowish, tibia II with rows of fine hairs on ventral surface; preening comb occurs ventroapically on the metatarsus of leg II and III.

Palpal coxae 0.41 long, 0.19 wide. Palpal measurements (femur + patella + tibia + tarsus = total): 1.02 + 0.43 + 0.49 + 0.48 = 2.41; patella longer than other species, the length of tibia 1.15 times that of patella. Palpal tibia with three dorsally trichobothria ( Figure 17A,B View Figure 17 ); a gracile spine near the TBS ( Figure 17B View Figure 17 ); with numerous short spines on palpal tibia and patella in retrolateral view ( Figure 17B View Figure 17 ). Tarsus dwindles distally, with relatively shallow AC in middle part, RA in adjacent apical part in retrolateral; retrolateral side with row of short setae on RA and at base part of tarsus; a group long setae at apical part ( Figure 17A,B View Figure 17 ). Bulb suboval, PL similarly rectangular ( Figure 17A View Figure 17 ); M rectangular, with 12 marginal teeth that transverse, ( Figures 17A,B View Figure 17 , 25F View Figure 25 ); PF transparent, elliptic (Figure 72).

Abdomen creamy yellow, without markings, sparse hair, 1.22 long, 0.92 wide.

Female paratype. Total length 2.30. Carapace smooth, 1.02 long, 0.77 wide, height at fovea 0.87 times carapace width, yellowish; thoracic fovea brown, needle-shaped ( Figure 18C,D View Figure 18 ). Clypeus 0.19 high, yellowish, with two setae crossing distally ( Figure 18C,D View Figure 18 ). Chelicerae 0.45 long, yellowish, with eight teeth on promargin of fang furrow and five denticles on retromargin; eight short setae on base ( Figure 17E View Figure 17 ). Eyeless only ALEMs, PLEMs and PMEMs remain on ocular area, two setae both sides of PMEMs ( Figure 18C,D View Figure 18 ). Sternum 0.66 long, 0.62 wide, haired; labium 0.10 long, 0.19 wide, yellowish.

Leg formula: 1423. Leg measurements (femur + patella + tibia + metatarsus + tarsus = total): I: 1.99 + 0.36 + 2.05 + 1.58 + 1.12 = 7.09; II: 1.68 + 0.31 + 1.73 + 1.33 + 0.97 = 6.02; III: 1.53 + 0.31 + 1.38 + 1.28 + 0.77 = 5.25; IV: 1.99 + 0.36 + 1.89 + 1.58 + 1.07 = 6.89. Leg yellowish, preening comb occurs ventroapically on the metatarsus of leg II and III.

Palpal coxae 0.45 long, 0.15 wide. Palpal measurements (femur + patella + tibia + tarsus = total): 0.71 + 0.26 + 0.45 + 0.65 = 2.06.

Abdomen creamy yellow, without markings, sparse hair, 1.38 long, 1.02 wide. Epigynal plate broadly triangular, simple ( Figure 17F View Figure 17 ); internal genitalia with a pair of spermathecae, coiled sperm duct, helmet-shaped atrium ( Figure 17G View Figure 17 ).

Distribution

The species is known only from the type locality ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 ).

Etymology

The specific name comes from Latin “ robustispina ” meaning “thick spine”, referring to thick spines on clypeus and both sides of PMEM.

Level of cave adaptation

This species lives entirely in the dark parts of caves and has no functioning eyes and no pigmentation. Troglobitic species.

Natural history

Spiders were found from the completely dark and constant-temperature zone with relatively high humidity. The web is a woven sheet about 10 cm in diameter, along the cave base plate and between stalagmites. Entrance of the cave is very small, about 1 m in diameter. Cave is bigger inside, about 5 m high and 3 m wide, only a hall which is about 10 m high and 8 m wide, with a deep pool.
