Type material

Holotype, female, Jianfengling (18.7N, 108.8E), Ledong County, Hainan Province, China, April 1994, Liao Cong­Hui leg.

Diagnosis

The new species is similar to E. prima Zabka, 1985 (221, figs 165–169) in body form and markings, but can be distinguished from the latter by: (1) epigynum with a large distinct cap­shaped marking(Fig. 5), absent in E. prima ; (2) atrium much larger and posteriorly located, anteriorly located in E. prima ; (3) spermathecae tube­shaped in the new species, pear­shaped in E. prima ; (4) copulatory ducts much shorter and merged in the new species, but separated in E. prima .

Etymology

The species is named after Chong­Hui Liao, who collected the type specimen.

Description

Female (holotype): Total length 2.6; CL 1.1, CW 1.1. OL 1.50, OW 1.9. AER 1.0, PER 0.95, EFL 0.7. Legs: I 2.6 (0.9, 0.9, 0.5, 0.3), II 2.0 (0.6, 0.7, 0.4, 0.3), III 2.1 (0.7, 0.7, 0.4, 0.3), IV 2.9 (1.0, 1.0. 0.6, 0.3); formula: 4,1,3,2.

Carapace ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ) light brown with darker sides, clothed in brown and white hairs; anterior four eyes with equal distance, ALE slightly smaller than AME, PME at the midpoint between ALE and PLE, bases of eyes black and connected, median ocular area white. Sternum oval and brown; margin light brown with grayish black patches as coxae of legs. Clypeus grayish black, covered with several long brown setae; height shorter than radius of AME. Chelicera light brown, two promarginal and four retromarginal teeth. Pedipalpus and legs brown with brown hairs; spines strong: three pairs on ventral side of tibia I, metatarsus I & II; two pairs on ventral side of tibia II. Opisthosoma cylindrical, yellowish gray; markings grayish black, branch­shaped; anterior and posterior margins covered with long brown hairs; ventral side of opisthosoma light brown, no distinct marking. Spinnerets light brown, anterior one shorter and stronger than posterior one.

Epigynum ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ): with a large distinct cap­shaped marking; atrium wide, posterior portion semicircular, merged anteriorly. Vulva ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ): spermathecae tube­shaped; copulatory ducts merged and extending into the cap­shaped structure.
