Material examined. See remarks. Stn 204: Pacific, Western Central (Sibuyan Sea, Philippines, near Luzon); 209 m. Supplementary description. Nilsson-Cantell (1927). Distribution. Pacific, Western Central and Northwest. Known depth range 133 to 331 m. Remarks. A fragment of coral with one scalpellid specimen was described by Hoek (1883). This specimen could not be located. There are juvenile cirripedes attached to the same coral fragment which may belong to the

same species, T. rubrum . However, these specimens should not be considered to be syntypes, because Hoek established the species based on a single specimen that cannot now be found.

This species bears a close resemblance to Trianguloscalpellum diota ( Hoek, 1907) . In the absence of Hoek's holotype a comparison with T. diota could be made using a reference specimen of S. rubrum identified by Nilsson- Cantell taken in the Western Central Pacific and stored in the collections of the Natural History Museum (NHM UK 1931.6.1. 2-4).
