Diagnosis. Capitulum with 13 or 14 plates; upper latus umbo apical or sub-apical; carinal latus broad, umbo subbasicarinal, not extending beyond carinal margin; inframedian latus very narrow, bacilliform, umbo sub-medial; caudal appendages long, with six to nine segments.

Type species: Scalpellum recurvitergum Gruvel, 1902a .

Composition. 17 species.

Distribution. Worldwide, excluding polar areas. Known depth range 129 to 5540 m.
