Compressoscalpellum compressum: Zevina, 1981a: 105 , fig. 73. Material examined. Holotype NHM UK 2013.1054 (the scutorial adductor muscle is damaged), Stn 198: Pacific, Western Central (Celebes Sea); 3932 m.

Diagnosis. Hoek (1883) only, no appendage descriptions are available.

Remarks. This species is known only from Hoek's original description. Hoek's holotype now looks as though its plates are not fully calcified and, although Hoek did not mentioned this in the text, he did stress the dificulty in discerning the limits of the plates covered by a thick chitinous membrane. The original description and the original figures appear to show fully calcified plates ( Hoek, 1883: pl. III, fig. 13–14). However, the length of the capitulum (31 mm) and peduncle (10 mm) of the specimen match the data from the original description and the specimen is attached to a piece of flat substrate as figured by Hoek. We believe that this is the same specimen, the holotype, as figured by Hoek. The plates are reduced, but the outline shapes of the individual plates are as Hoek described and illustrated if the non-calcified parts are included.
