Type-locality. Fazenda Salvamento, Roraima, Brazil.

Distribution and habitat. Gymnophthalmus leucomystax  is endemic to northern Amazonia  , typical of the Lavrado area of the Guiana region, occurring in Brazil and Guyana ( Fig. 9View FIGURE 9). In Brazil, it is only known from the state of Roraima. Gymnophthalmus leucomystax  is sexually dimorphic, terrestrial, and diurnal, inhabits open vegetation areas (savannas), where it is found in termite nests (Vitt & Carvalho 1995) and at the edge of rock outcrops (Vitt et al. 1996).
